Winter Wonders: The 4 Item Face

So for those of you who don't know, my job isn't glamorous. It isn't a slacks or false lashes or even a place where they notice makeup generally. I work at a pre-school. So that being said, I try not to do a full face most days. I only work a few hours & at home I'm usually doing wild makeup so I definitely find my balance. This got me thinking about a quick holiday look because often I wrap up writing or meeting with clients for my other job (even LESS glamorous!) & head into work.

How can I make seasonal makeup fun for the everyday while still keeping it basic enough for everyday wear?

Here's what I came up with!:

Products Used:
- Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eyeliner in Black for Brown Eyes
- Physician's Formula Powder Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Peal
- Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in Top Tomato

So I honestly love everything in this post oh so much, so it made sense it all went together. I started with a clean face & applied the PF Glow Pearls as a highlight to my cheekbones, browbone, cupid's bow, & even a dab under my eyes to brighten the area. I love multi-use products so this is amazing, the perfect brightening & light catching formula. Next was the eyeliner which I applied to both my inner upper & bottom lashline. Easy enough!

Next is where I would have curled my lashes should you want to! Then I applied 2 coats of my Maybelline Great Lash which I have been getting a decent handle on how to use lately. I figured I would do an "impact lip" so I chose an orange-pink based red to be a bit different. This was before taking it off and reapplying though...I had lip balm on so it didn't adhere for max staying power. I totally knew this just spaced!

What do you guys think? Easy look to achieve? Would you go this bare to let your skin breathe like me?

Winter Wonders: Essie 'Shine of the Times'

So as we get ever so close to December, I've been putting together holiday posts like crazy. My first post, however, is of (you guessed it!) a fabulous nail polish. Essie Shine of the Times embodies everything I wanted for a Limited Edition polish this season. Okay, I'm not all that hard to please. I have a flakie addiction and I'm completely okay with that! Still, the application is flawless and the looks are endless.

So here are my base colors (2 coats each):
Pinky- Sinful Colors in Snow Me White
Ring- Pure Ice in Kiss Me Here (weird name for a gray eh?)
Middle- Wet n Wild The Gold & the Beautiful from the Color Craze Collection
Pointer- China Glaze in City Siren
Thumb- LA Colors Nail Lacquer in Black Velvet

1 Coat of Essie Shine of the Times over every finger except the thumb, 2 coats on that! Then a top coat of Seche Vite.

Clearly, the star of the show is the black, as expected. The rest of the colors I picked were primarily colors I wear this season, minus a navy (close to the black) & the green. You'll probably see it over green soon if that's what you were hoping for! I threw in the metallic gold to show people why it doesn't show up and why it looks better over a solid color.

This is a flakie polish suspended in a clear base that shines mainly red, orange, & vibrant green. Flecks of other colors can be seen at certain angles, especially depending on your base.

I really think the white is the only one that was SUPER hard to capture. It's honestly gorgeous, looks just like those fake snow bits you see in store displays. The gray came out amazing. The gold is a fail in my book. The red came out a pretty flame type manicure. & the black...just look at it!

I picked up Essie Shine of the Times at Walgreens for around $8. The formula is perfection when it comes to a flakie and I hope they come out with many (MANY!) more! This is the kind of nail polish I consider an investment!

I didn't think the photos did it enough justice, so check out the video! Its short but shows this polish off like it deserves!

Pretty Large Haul from Walgreens + Sally Beauty & Old Navy

So this was one of those completely unexpected & totally random hauls. I went into CVS & walked out with nothing, but Walgreens made me stay & play. I don't know why, but when something is $1.99 or below, I just feel its my duty to give it a shot. You never know what's going to be amazing! So stay tuned for what I picked up and a sneak peek at what I'll be showing & reviewing in posts to come!
So I picked all of these up for only $1 each. They reminded me a bit of some I got from Claire's. The names are nonexistent but the front has a number on it where it flips open ranging from 1-6. I went ahead and attached them to the back of the eyeshadows so I'd remember the numbering. Top row left to right is 1-3 and bottom row left to right is 4-6. I'll swatch them tomorrow I think.

So these weer $1.99 but they are EXACTLY the same as some I loved from Sephora in the past. I usually got them on clearance for $10 so this was a great deal. They come with a brush, mirror, & a little section to mix the lipsticks in. They come in Cherry Lip Gloss (top) & Strawberry Lip Gloss (bottom) & I'm really excited to compare them.

So Sinful Colors nail polishes are only 99 cents again & this time I picked up a few I don't have (the very few)  & a few I do for gifts. For specific colors, just ask!

Dear Essie, I love you more than anything for giving me a holiday flakie that I could walk into a drugstore & buy. Its gorgeous. Also, the only Sally Hansen  new Diamond Strength polish I was interested in at the moment. On the left is 'Shine of the Times' from Essie & on the right is 'Glass Slipper' from Sally Hansen.

From Sally Beauty Supplu, I picked up 2 clearance China Glaze polishes & one Beauty Secrets nail file. Left is City Siren & right is Near Dark. Both were marked down to $1.99.

Lastly, the most random polish location ever has to be Old Navy. But I saw it and I knew it had to be mine. Seen here is 'Tip Taupe' which was $3.50 but had some sort of percentage taken off because we went on Friday. Love this color!

Review: Proactiv 3 Step System

Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner, & Repairing Treatment from Proactive Solutions

Product Information:

Renew- This medicated Renewing Cleanser is made with new, exclusive micro-crystal benzoyl peroxide — featuring smaller, finer particles designed to quickly penetrate pores to start killing acne-causing bacteria on contact. Tiny exfoliating beads gently remove dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells to help keep pores from clogging.

Revitalize- This refreshing, alcohol-free toner helps remove impurities and excess oil so your skin looks and feels clean, soft and refreshed -- not tight and dried out. Soothing botanical agents gently balance your skin tone.

Repair- The repairing treatment is a feather-light medicated lotion that gets deep into clogged pores faster but is designed to be gentler on the skin. It's an oil-free formula that's safe for your entire face.

Impressions: Once again, I'm sick. Were you not aware? Sorry I can't shut up about it, but I had no idea how much it effected my beauty routine until I started writing about it! When ill, my skin reverts to the pizza face I never had. I had great skin all through high school so I think its the universes way of evening odds. I've been using this system daily since receiving it and I REALLY like it. My skin gets super oily while ill so this really helps with this, but normally I think this system would be too harsh for me. The toner is my favorite part, very refreshing. I wish I had enough to use for an extended period of time but for now, its working great.
UPDATE: So now that my skin has cleared up some since being sick, I'm realizing this might not all be for me. I love the toner (REALLY I do!)  & the repairing lotion is also great. I think the cleanser is just a bit too harsh for my combo skin. However, if you have acne or oily skin, I definitely recommend this! I can't believe the miracles it worked when I was sick. If YOU use Proactiv, please do let me know! I'd love to hear if it works for you or not!

Where to Buy:Check out their website but shop around for deals. They often offer freebies or other deals so wait to get more bang for your buck then strike when you're most interested! You can click HERE for Proactiv's Website or go to http://www.proactiv.com. I received these to try from the Influenster Vox Box program. Wait WHAT? Sally Hansen Dupes Certain Polishes from Wet N Wild Ice Baby Collection

I know there are a lot of polishes out there this holiday season, but isn't this a bit too close for comfort? Check out the two polishes below and then compare to my photo above taken in store and tell me what you think.

I'd say "Be-Jeweled" (the purple & pink glitter) is interchangeable with Wet n Wild's "It's All in the Cut" straight down to glitter size. Wet N Wild's "Diamond in the Rough" is definitely recreated by Sally Hansen in "Glitz Gal" which is the smoky gray with the holo glitter.

On one hand I'm happy because not everyone was able to find these fab shades from Wet N Wild. However, these don't seem to be a coincidence. 2 from one collection appearing in the same collection of at Sally Hansen? Plus they're more than twice the price!

What do you think? Duped? Will you be picking either of these up? There were a few more in this collection that were CLOSE to Wet N Wild's Ice Baby Collection but not dead on like these two.

If you're interested in picking these up, keep your eyes peeled for varying displays. In my local CVS it was on a shelf & at Walgreens they were located on a full size display with other polishes featured as well.

Fragrance Review: Sula Rollerball in Blackberry Blush

$18 for a Rollerball.
So I picked this up at Ulta ages ago, took my picture, then have been in love with it ever sense. I always have at least one fragrance in my purse (usually more like a mini spray & a solid too) because I pet sit & frequently touch up. When its this bitter and cold, it normally throws off my routine! This was a very unexpected scent for me but its intoxicating.
Ulta's Description:
Blackberry Blush: Simple and fresh, Blackberry Blush gives you a yummy, fruity aura. Stiletto Musk: Captivating and simple, Stiletto Musk exudes warmth and sexiness. Features notes of musk, amber and dusky florals.

Not your everyday citrus or too youthful smelling, its a new twist on the warmth of berries. They say you can layer it with other fragrances but eh...that's not for me. Too complicated & I think its perfect as it is. Please keep in mind that fragrances will smell different on everyone due to our skin's chemistry, but I definitely think this is a must try. If you're unsure, definitely wait for a fragrance deal! Ulta has some great ones back to back usually. I added this to my basket when I was picking up another fragrance to add up to $50 for a freebie.

Review: Freeman Peppermint & Plum Soothing Liquid Foot Powder

Image from Freeman Beauty.
What Freeman Beauty Says: This unique formula starts as a lotion to soften your feet and transforms into a light silky powder to keep feet comfortable and refreshed.  Extracts of Plum and Peppermint energize.

My Impressions: Talk about a winter must-have! So this lotion moisturizes...while keeping my feet dry. Strange combo but definitely what my boots and slippers were calling for. See, in my house, we have heating wars. I run hot while he runs cold, so whoever attacks the thermostat without the other noticing wins. I've been wearing lots of boots which is great for outdoors, but eventually my internal thermometer meets all the extra winter gear. I either have dry feet or sweaty feet. Ew much?

Basically, you put it on like regular lotion. You rub it in and it soaks in nicely. Then it coats your foot in a superfine powder, like a high-end locker room secret. Scented with plum and peppermint, it isn't your average athlete product. I can't wait to use it in summer when the humidity here is ridiculous! Also, it doesn't leave my socks all slimy like some of my lotions!

Where You Can Get It: You can get this off Freeman's website HERE for only $3.79 but you can also search the site for stores near you carrying Freeman products!

Review: Green Grab Bag from White Apricot

After receiving my Green Grab Bag, I was wildly excited. After seeing some reviews & comparisons, I honestly wasn't sure what I was going to be getting. I knew it had the same principles as Eco-Emi, but completely more up my alley because its all beauty related.

My items were inside a gift bag decorated with leaves surrounded by green mossy looking packing material. I won't lie to you, I'm leaving this as is and putting it in my gifting area to reuse, that cute! Like Birchbox,  got a card indexing my items inside as well as a note from the creators. Did I look at it beforehand? No I dug right in of course!

After playing with my products a bit, I am so excited to show you guys what was inside!

Inside my Green Grab Bag:

- Bambola Beauty: Acai Anti-Oxident Cleanser
- Cocoon Apothecary: Rosey Cheeks Face Cream
- Ferro Mineral Makeup: Light Medium Beige Ultimate Foundation
- Maris Naturals Body Creme: Eucalyptus Body Creme
- Dropwise Aromatic Mister: Room & Body Spray
- Dr. Alkaitis Skin Care: Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil

BONUS:
Vapour Organic Beauty Multi-Use Blush in Spark

I'm most excited to show off Aura Multi-use blush in Spark, a perfect peach-toned pink. I still have to test it but I already have a high end version in mind to compare it to! The Cocoon Apothecary Rosey Cheeks Face Cream smells AMAZING! Rose extract is a gorgeous ingredient which I also think I'm smelling in the Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil? I'm planning to use this small bottle on my cuticles. I will definitely let you know how I like these products! From the looks of it, they're going to be fabulous!

The Green Grab Bag is $15 a month which includes shipping. If you're interested in beauty products ( which I assume you are because you're here!) & also environmentally friendly products (think cruelty-free, organic & natural) then Green Grab Bag is definitely worth a try! For $15, its definitely worth the money for a surprise box of products delivered right to your door.

Mani of the Day: It's All in the Cut from Wet n Wild

2 Coats.

2 Coats.
As I say goodbye to my Ice Baby Collection posts, I am going out with a bang. It's All in the Cut is an expected combination for winter, but it works. This is a silver toned lavender micro glitter with pink-toned rose gold hex glitter mixed throughout. I've been on the hunt for the perfect rose gold polish & I wish I could extract each of these glitters on their own, they're that gorgeous! This is 2 coats of perfection, expect to see this again in spring as well!
2 Coats.

Here's my first look at the Ice Baby Collection from Wet n Wild.

Review: Venus Proskin MoistureRich Razor from Gillette

Product Information: Venus ProSkin MoistureRich Razor has shave gel bars enhanced with a triple blend of body butters, which create a layer of protection for your skin with every stroke. Plus, it features the trusted Venus three-blade technology for an ultra-close shave; our rounded, pivoting head for those hard-to-reach places; and an ergonomic handle for great control in wet, soapy environments.
For more information, visit the Venus Website: http://www.gillettevenus.com

Impressions:  So, you know those showers with TONS of stuff in it, so much that you wonder how someone gets in and out? Well, I have 5 different types of razors in my shower currently. Does that give you an idea of what mine looks like? I have tried razors that are compact, razors that trim, razors that have the solid block on the, razors with no moisture strips... I have gotten picky. Razors have lots of new attributes, but not all of them are logical. Too much moisturization and they evaporate, too little and I end up cut. I liked this razor, it was a happy medium. If you shave your legs every day this would especially be good because it doesn't give the moisture bars enough time to get slimy. I really like the holder too, not as bulky as my other that holds cartridges inside of it... making it too heavy....which makes it slide down my shower wall.

After being in my shower for two weeks I feel like I can revisit it and let you know my little update. So, most of you won't know this, but I have scarring from my right underarm straight down my arm pit and a little on my side. When I say a razor cuts close without cutting, I know what I'm talking about! I love the moisturization I get while still getting a close shave. The one con I have found is I worry the moisture bar is too thick maybe? I keep worrying it will fall off from use because its rubbing all the time. It hasn't though....YET.

Where to Buy: I've seen them at major retailers like Walmart/Target, drugstores, etc. This set is priced at $9.79 but can vary from store to store. I got mine through my Influenster program & if you're a blogger who is influential in almost any topic, so can you!

For everything I got in this Influenster box, check out this blog post!

Review: Pomegranate & Blood Orange Body Wash from VitaBath

Product Information: Vitabaths’s newest collection of sulfate and paraben free body washes boast a moisturizing formula that leaves skin feeling clean, refreshed and vibrant. Featuring a nourishing blend of Vitamins A, B3, B5, C and E, as well as an antioxidant superfruit blend, the Fragrance Collection moisturizes and revives skin with its rich, luxurious lather.

Impressions: For me, this was the perfect scent. In the mornings, especially during my sick season, I am a zombie. Citrus scents help wake up my brain while cleaning my skin, vital id I want to accomplish anything in the morning. A little went a long way and it lathered up nicely. But seriously, back to the scent. I don't know if I'm the only one who is obsessed with this combo but I'd be surprised if I am. Blood oranges are way underrated, I want them to be the new 'IN' scent. Love love love.
Now that I have been using this for a few weeks, I can give a more well rounded report. This body wash gives my skin a nice moisturized feeling, no tightness or irritation. The scent seriously envelopes my whole bathroom then spreads into our bedroom. I love it, its like walking through an orange grove while eating a pomegranate.

I received this as part of my Influenster Cosmo Box & really enjoyed seeing the reviews on the other scents. If you have tried any, I REALLY want to know!

Where to Buy: The Fragrance Collection body washes retail for $12.99 or less each at http://www.myvitabath.com and at ULTA Beauty, Harmon Discount, Stages, Duane Reade, Fred Meyer and Bed Bath & Beyond stores.

Hard Candy Holiday: 4 Piece Liquid Eyeliner Set

I was planning to save these for my upcoming holiday posts, but these aren't going to last long! I thought I'd show you what you're getting so you know if you need it immediately!

Impressions: So, this little set is a true bargain. For $5, you get 4 different shades of Hard Candy's Walk the Line liquid eyeliners. What I love SO much about this set is the colors. Yes, you get your standard silver & gold glitters, but the rest aren't limiting. When I think of holiday sets, a lot of them are limiting. I don't usually rock cranberries year-round, but when I do I love it. This set features this fabulous metallic lavender, perfect for the wintery look. So sweet but also way fun, pretty uncommon too! Then there's your standard black which is a must have in any set, but this one has a slight metallic sheen.

Dry.
Gold Glitter- Fine but noticeable gold glitter suspended in a slightly yellow but clear base.

Silver Glitter- Fine but noticeable silver glitter suspended in a clear base.

Lavender Metallic- Lavender with barely visible specks of silver making it a silver metallic. Very shiny on.

Black- Shiny black leaning towards silver on the metallic spectrum but it just looks shiny on the eye.

Wet.
Wet.
Dry.

So these dry FAST. I love liquid liners that don't make me blind for over a minute because I have to keep my eyes closed. These dry quickly without flaking which I greatly appreciate. These seal dry though, so when wear begins to show, it will flake not smudge.

Wet.
Dry.
I wore these and swatched them. I had a bit of wear on my eye, but nothing noticeable to anyone but me. I forgot to pull my eyelid out to the side though, which I always recommend. I was able to rub them on the back of my hand without wear, much more vigorous than I would on my eyes.

Where to Buy: Walmart for the holidays! Only $5 which I think is more than reasonable! If you don't see them with the regular beauty products, check the holiday aisle! I think they're put there because they're perfect stocking stuffers.

Have you spotted these? Interested in picking them up?
