Books: The Dark Monk by Oliver Pötzsch

So awhile back, BzzAgent gave me the opportunity to read the The Dark Monk on my Kindle. I love my Kindle, I love reading, but man, this was such a silly decision for me. I have been CRAMMED with stuff to do so I feel like this wasn't a great choice for me to read. I've been reading some other books in between this because it was not easy for me to get into. In fact, I put this down to do dishes. Twice. RARE. In case you couldn't guess, I hate dishes.
The Dark Monk is the follow-up to The Hangman's Daughter, both written by Oliver Pötzsch. I think one of the issues I had getting through this story was it kind of sounded like a bad movie. Now it was written wonderfully, but the background reminds me of those movies we look up at Netflix & both my husband & I will look at each other & say, "We better watch that, it sounds terrible." There's a lost fortune. A mystery team. & yes, indeed, very bad ninja monks. You did read that correctly.

So was it worth the read? Actually, yes. I liked it much better once I hit about the half way point. Historical fiction isn't exactly my forte so please keep that in mind. In the end, its a compelling story with interesting characters. I DO recommend reading this book's predessesor, The Hangman's Daughter beforehand though.
